Germany develops a safe recycling method for Teflon materials
Germany ’s Bayreuth University published a communiqué saying that the school ’s material processing experts worked with the business community to develop a cost-effective and pollution-free Teflon material recycling method. This achievement will help solve the problem of Teflon waste disposal. Teflon scientific name PTFE is a high-performance material with heat resistance, chemical inertness, insulation stability and low friction. It is widely used as a frying pan coating, breathable sportswear material, electronic product insulator . So far, there is no effective method to recycle and reuse this material, and the traditional combustion treatment method is not only easy to damage the combustion equipment, but also produces highly polluted gas. The recovery method developed by German researchers is that this material is first broken down into smaller molecules, and the microwave is used as a heating source to produce pyrolysis, so that the recovery rate reaches 93%. The researchers said that another feature of this method is that no harmful by-products are produced during the process, which can ensure the safe recycling of Teflon. According to the researchers, the next step is to establish a small pilot plant to verify the industrial feasibility of this method.
