DSM promotes sustainable development of coatings and printing inks

DSM will showcase a series of resin technologies in the field of paint and coating applications, including new products for the Chinese market, at the Chinacoat 2008, booth 10A39-46, November 26-28, 2008 in Guangzhou. The company will focus on solutions for sustainable development of coatings to ensure that its range of waterborne resins will take the lead in the market. At the same time, DSM also awarded the latest DSM Resins Asian Sustainability Award to the Chinese paint manufacturer, which is recognized in the industry and leads the transition of waterborne coatings.

The award will be presented at a special ceremony after the press conference held in Guangzhou on Wednesday, November 26th.

During the show, DSM will demonstrate its use of resin products and technologies in a range of paints, coatings and printing inks. It also highlights the latest products introduced by DSM NeoResins+ in the Chinese market, including:

NeoRad U-30W is a UV curing resin for industrial parquet and industrial wood primers and colorings.

NeoRez R-2005 is an aqueous polyurethane dispersion used in combination with a water-based acrylic resin to produce high-performance topcoats. It does not contain NMP and APEO.

NeoCryl A-1125 is a self-crosslinking aqueous acrylic resin liquid with excellent printability, adhesion and chemical resistance. This product is used as a mixed resin to improve the printing performance of high-performance flexographic and gravure inks printed on flexible packaging materials (PE, BOPP, PET, etc.). It is recommended to mix with NeoCryl A-1127 or A-1120.

NeoRez U-471 is a solvent-based aliphatic polyurethane elastomer for high-performance flexo and gravure composite inks. This product is suitable for a variety of membrane materials and provides excellent composite strength in most composite structures. It can be used as a pigment grinding resin to make the ink resistant to retort sterilization and pasteurization.

Waterborne acrylic resins can be used in waterborne coatings to ensure that they do not contain volatile organic compounds or solvents such as VOCs. VOCs not only cause environmental pollution, but also cause harm to painters and users. Most waterborne coatings contain only a small percentage of organic solvents. Coating resins and coatings themselves are not harmful. In fact, waterborne and solvent-based coatings currently have the same performance capabilities in most applications. This means that waterborne paints can be used like solvent-based paints, dry, and have the same gloss, durability, and scratch resistance.

Although China's market for specialty waterborne coatings is still relatively small, DSM is still optimistic about the use of resins in industrial wood and metal coatings, adhesives, and printing technologies. The company has recently invested 20 million euros in a new production line dedicated to the production of water-based resins in the DSM Syntech plant in Guangdong.
