The moon, the Mount Everest, and the South Antarctic, the 40th century cloth

Having a wise eye is one of the important conditions for exploring the unknown path. Before introducing the text, you may wish to test whether you are a "qualified" adventurer. Everyone came to the same, what are the same places for the following few pictures?

The answer is not difficult: they all share the same GORE-TEX® brand LOGO. As the founder of outdoor functional fabrics, the GORE-TEX® brand has been a common choice of global brands, silently guarding 200 million outdoor enthusiasts around the world.

Then the question is, why does the GORE-TEX® brand attract the cooperation of leading outdoor brands such as Archaeopteryx, lowa, and TNF? In 2016, the 40th anniversary of the official establishment of the GORE-TEX® brand. What did the GORE-TEX® brand do in these 40 years? How has the fabric technology gone through?

(In front of high-energy black technology is popular, students who do not like science enter carefully)

In 1958, Bill Gore and his wife founded the Gore Company in the basement of their home, and all future legendary experiences began. An important point is that their son, Bob Gore, discovered ePTFE (expanded polytetrafluoroethylene) in the lab. Originally this was an accident because Bob Gore was looking for ways to expand the coverage of PTFE (Teflon) but did not expect it to revolutionize the outdoor apparel market. ePTFE is the later GORE-TEX® film. Its unique microporous structure gives the product its long-lasting waterproof, windproof and breathable properties.

In 1976, GORE-TEX® fabric received its first commercial order. Afterwards, Gore began to become a world-leading supplier step by step. GORE-TEX® fabrics were also listed as one of the best 100 American products in the world by Fortune magazine. They are highly favored and respected. When the first space shuttle of NASA was lifted in 1981, the astronaut’s air clothing was made of GORE-TEX® fabric.

In the late 1990s, GORE-TEX® Paclite technology was born under the company's in-depth research and development. It reduces the weight per square meter of material from 160 grams to less than 100 grams, enabling extremely lightweight, easy-to-receive functional clothing that meets outdoor trekking, cycling, and other demanding outdoor sports for weight and space.

In 2006, GORE-TEX® Pro was specially designed for outdoor sports professionals. Its high abrasion resistance is especially suitable for bad weather and harsh outdoor environments.

In 2013, the new generation of New GORE-TEX® pro technology was launched simultaneously globally. Compared with the previous Pro fabrics, the new generation of GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics are more resistant to abrasion, resulting from the specially developed sturdy lining--Gore Micro Grid Backer Technology to achieve high internal wear resistance and snagging resistance. This technology is used by a large number of outdoor top brands to produce its professional line of jackets, of which the fourth-generation ARC'TERYX ALPHA SV GORE-TEX® Pro jacket uses New GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics.

In 2016, the fifth-generation ARC'TERYX ALPHA SV GORE-TEX® Pro jacket was released, which was optimized for New GORE-TEX® Pro fabrics, and further improved the clothing on a constant weight basis. The wear-resistance, and the special squeegee technology reduces the width of the squeegee strip, thereby reducing the overall weight of the garment.

GORE-TEX® Active fabrics use breathability as the main function point, and are more suitable for high aerobic sports such as cross-country running, mountain biking and fast mountaineering.

In January 2015, Gore's innovative new technology, 3L GORE-TEX® Products With Gore® C-KnitTM Backer Technology, was officially unveiled. The new three-layer GORE-TEX® product using this technology combines the proven GORE-TEX® film with a dense, extremely thin, special circular braided lining to create a soft, lightweight composite laminated product. Not only can it provide long-lasting water and wind protection, but it can also be significantly lighter, more breathable, 10% less weight per unit area, 15% more breathability, and more light and soft, giving the wearer perfect comfort.

Almost at the same time, GORE-TEX® SURROUND® technology reinterprets the technological content of outdoor hiking footwear. In addition to the same overall waterproof and breathable function of the upper, this technology also solves the “foot of the hiking shoe under normal conditions. There is no question of breathability at all. The unique "sole-breathable technology" allows sweat to pass through the GORE-TEX® film to the open structure of the "breathable sandwich" on the sole, and is then discharged through the "window-opening" ventilation hole on the side of the shoe, so that the sweat in the foot can be improved. Easily distributed, regardless of the weather can maintain dry and comfortable all-weather, while preventing the feet worn and produce painful blisters. The invention has brought outdoor enthusiasts a subversive walking experience. After its release, it won many awards such as the European Outdoor Industry Award and the Asian Outdoor Industry Awards.

The GORE-TEX® Active fabric with GORE-TEX®shakedryTM technology was the most ventilated film material ever developed by Gore. The revolutionary laminated structure ensures that water vapor can be easily discharged from the interior. Reduce the accumulation of sweat, make it more lightweight and extremely breathable. Special structural design reduces surface material and prevents water absorption. When the beads of water fall on the surface of the clothes, quick shaking can dry the surface of the clothes without DWR anti-water treatment, which is both comfortable and environmentally friendly.

In 2016, THE NORTH FACE's HyperAir GORE-TEX® jackets use the latest GORE-TEX® shakedryTM technology fabrics.

After 40 years of polishing, Gore, who was born in the basement, has continued to absorb nutrients from the long time, and has been constantly researching and upgrading with professional technology. Whether it is running, cycling, skiing or mountaineering, Gore has never stopped the pace of technological innovation. There are many things that can change in 40 years. The only constant is genes. Gore’s constant innovation of technology and its ultimate performance and superior experience stem from the first commercial order from the GORE-TEX® brand, which put “global technological innovation” as a gene for development. Gore made a further and further development on the road to innovation. Every second is the beginning because of innovation and dreams.

At the time of the 40th anniversary of the official establishment of the GORE-TEX® brand, we will also launch the “Find the oldest GORE-TEX® Jackets” interactive event. Say in this WeChat commentary: What brand and technology did you buy for the earliest GORE-TEX® Jackets? Have the opportunity to win a beautiful gift package! Come and participate!
