New beer packaging developed in the UK

The new box-in-plastic bag packaging system for small-bucket beer was recently launched, which was jointly sponsored by the Rapak company and the Bavarian brewery under the British plastic packaging and logistics distributor DS Smith Plastics Group. According to a spokesperson for Rapak, such pioneering beer packaging products are suitable for all types of beer, with application targets aimed at hotels and restaurants.

The plastic bag in this box is a one-off item and cannot be reloaded or reused. This helps reduce transportation costs and increases the export potential of most brewers. Small beer kegs are expensive to transport, and in particular many kegs are easily lost. The loss rate in Eastern Europe is as high as 30%. After using the plastic bag in the box to pack the beer, more beer can be transported on each cargo carrier than in the barrel, which improves the economic efficiency.

The additional benefits of using this beer packaging system include extending the shelf life of the beer and making beer foam last longer. Rapak plans to fully commercialize bagged plastic beer in early 2007. ( Tong Quansheng compiled)
