Arabidopsis epidermal hair is a typical single-cell structure, and its regulatory mechanism has been intensively studied, that is, the downstream gene expression is regulated by the MYB-bHLH-WD40 protein complex, thereby controlling the differentiation and development of epidermal hair. The mechanism of cotton fiber and Arabidopsis epidermal hair is similar. However, the regulatory mechanisms of the initial differentiation of multicellular epidermal hair on tomato, petunia, tobacco and other body surfaces may be different. The results reported in this article show that the regulation pattern of tomato epidermal hair formation is different from that of Arabidopsis, and is a new regulatory mechanism. The discovery of this mechanism is of great value to reveal the diversity of plant cell fate regulation. In addition, tomato epidermal hair plays an important role in resisting aphids and their transmitted cucumber mosaic virus, tobacco mosaic virus, and yellow leaf curl virus. At present, many hairy tomato varieties have been bred in China for production, but because the occurrence of hairiness is related to the homozygote lethality of the embryo, the first generation of tomato hybrid varieties that are cultivated are always "hairy" and "hairless" Mixed groups, plants need to be removed without "hairless" plants.
