Kodak Launches a Multi-Purpose CTP Device

On September 21, Kodak announced the launch of a THERMOFLEX narrow-format flexo/offset CTP device. The device was developed on the basis of the THERMOFLEX CTP technology platform and is used in a variety of applications to handle offset printing plates, flexographic printing plates, and relief printing plates and films.

“We see more and more intersections between offset and flexo. Narrow web printers are investing in offset or co-presses to expand their services. In contrast, commercial printers are buying flexographic printers. To print a variety of materials," said Bob Dalton, product manager at Kodak Graphic and Video Group (GCG), "The biggest benefit of this device is that companies can use the same CTP device to handle a variety of printing technologies: Flexo, letterpress, offset And screen printing."

The device can handle up to 762 x 762 mm (30 x 30 in.) flexo plates and 762 x 744 mm (30 x 29 in.) offset plates. Its small footprint, easy-to-use TIFF front-end software, and universal workflow make it suitable for any size shop floor.

The first technology demonstration took place at Labelexpo Europe in Brussels, Belgium, from September 21st to 24th. It is expected that the device will be available in early 2006.
