Global large-format press market shrinks in the first quarter of 2013

Recently, IDC's global large-format printer market quarterly tracking system data shows that in the 2013 quarter, the global large-format printer shipments were 75,000, a total decline of 12.0% over the same period last year.

PhuongHang, head of the quarterly tracking system project for the global large-format printer market, said: "In the past three years, sales of UV-curable inkjet devices have increased. IDC expects this growth trend to continue steadily over the next three years."

Japan has shown a year-on-year growth in both cargo volume and total freight volume. This year is the fifth consecutive year of growth.

Although the market as a whole fell by 5.6% this quarter, the number of devices used in the technology sector reached 45,900, and the share of the large format printer market rose from 57% last year to 61%. In terms of cargo volume, Japan and the United States performed particularly well, with a year-on-year growth of 7.5% and 11.5% respectively.

The sales of equipment used for image printing was 29,000 units, a decrease of 20% from the same period last year. Market share fell from 43% last year to 39%.

In the first quarter of this year, the top five global large-format printer market share companies are Hewlett-Packard, Epson, Canon, Océ and Roland.
