British designer stunning 3D print high heels

For British footwear designer Silvia Fado, 3D printing technology has been in use since the beginning of her design and manufacturing process. In fact, she learned 3D printing technology by completing a complete set of traditional shoes, which also enabled her to fully integrate traditional technology with 3D printing to create unique 3D printed shoes.

In addition, Silvia Fado draws inspiration from other disciplines such as architecture and engineering. For example, in the Kinetic Traces series, she incorporates industrial springs and pneumatics into the design, exploring it in a stylish and unique way. Since Silvia wanted to have full freedom of experimentation, she never used 3D printing services, of course, partly because it was more expensive. Correspondingly, she chose to buy her own machine and chose the ZMorph 2.0 3D printer . In the beginning, she had to spend a lot of time learning how to use a 3D printer. It is not easy for a person to ponder this at home. Nowadays, she sometimes provides some creative guidance, tutorials, or some digital functions to other creative professionals.

For her 3D printed shoes, Silvia usually agrees on the high heel and sole parts and combines it with leather material (which is usually done by hand using traditional techniques), metal parts and more. It is well known that the materials used for 3D printing of shoes must be strong, durable and wear resistant in addition to aesthetics. Fortunately, she found a sponsorship of the well-known 3D printed wire manufacturer Colorfab, which gave her a large selection of materials with different characteristics and colors.

In her Carbonalise collection, Silvia used carbon fiber to make high-heeled 3D prints, which made it both light and high-strength. In addition, Silvia added a metal strip to the outside of the heel. It also gives it a more futuristic and elegant look.

Silvia's latest work is the Ray of Liberty collection. Inspired by the architecture of the Freedom Tower, these 3D printed shoes were designed for the New York Fashion Week. In this project, Silvia used a transparent wire and placed a light source in the shoe to create a unique effect.

Now, Silvia Fado has not stopped, she is still experimenting with different types of high-strength plastics to find the kind of material that can best match their ideas. Details about the ongoing work are still confidential, but the artist revealed that she is considering increasing the number of 3D printed parts in the design and creating new non-shoe 3D printed designs.
