3D printed jacket that mimics the reaction of human goose bumps
Thanks to the popularity of 3D printing technology , technology and fashion have never been so closely connected as they are now. A team called Sensoree has attracted attention in the fashion and technology world. The team produced a 3D print jacket called Awelectric. The unique feature of this jacket is that its surface can automatically undulate and simulate a special reaction of human skin, which is commonly known as goose bump. It is understood that Sensoree's team has seen a study by the University of California at Berkeley, saying that goose bumps are good for people. To this end they decided to design a wearable product to emphasize this feeling. According to Kristin Neidlinger, the team's chief designer, “In our research, people reported that cold breeze, intimate contact, fear, or based on certain emotions can cause goose bumps. Our design is for Explore the emotional connection between fear and curiosity." From a manufacturing point of view, this 3D printing jacket was also an experiment. At first, the design team chose to use advanced Polyjet 3D printing technology and rubber-based materials, but did not have the reproducibility that Kristin pursued. Finally, the Awelectric team was surprised to find that the common PLA plastic box power mesh was bonded together in a reliable manner to meet its requirements. The design team switched to an open-source RepRap 3D printer and a MakerBot Replicator 3D printer to create a hexagonal shape, which was then attached to an expanding mesh fabric to represent an exaggerated version of the so-called goose bumps. According to the research team, they also implanted a series of biosensors in this dress that can read the user's skin's electrical response, breathing and heart rate changes, and then determine whether it is in a state of surprise or fear and then trigger this A 3D printed goose bump swells.
